Frequently asked questions

Intel® RealSense™ Depth Camera D555 introduces Power over Ethernet interface on chip, expanding our portfolio of USB and GMSL/FAKRA products.

D555 is composed of the longer-range global shutter D450 optical module with inertial measurement unit (IMU) and powered by the new Intel® RealSense™ Vision V5 SoC

The Width × Height × Depth of the camera are: 167 mm × 42 mm × 48 mm

Ethernet interface has the following advantages:
- Seamless integration into Ethernet infrastructure
- Reliable industrial Ethernet interface over 100 m long cable
- Multi camera with low latency

D555 is powered by SafeDDS, which is interoperable with Fast DDS, the middleware powering ROS 2.
This makes D555 plug&play with ROS2 using its ethernet interface, streaming seamlessly to ROS 2 nodes on its network without any additional installation. To learn more about ROS on DDS check https://design.ros2.org/articles/ros_on_dds.html.

A host with a PoE interface. The minimum PoE requirements are:
- The product was validated with PoE+ standard IEEE802.3 at 30W
- Gigabit Ethernet 1000BASE-T ports. Note: If multiple cameras are connected to the same switch, the data bandwidth to the host system is shared between the cameras. To achieve the best performance, a higher data speed rate switch and a host system should be considered, like a 2.5GB, 5GB or 10GB.
- Jumbo frame size, 9000 bytes, supported. Note: If the switch supports only 1500 bytes frame sizes, the camera performance is very limited, and the camera’s Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) must be reconfigured accordingly.

Yes. The camera can stream via the Ethernet interface and power over the USB Type-C interface. In this mode, the Ethernet cable should be connected directly from the camera to the host, without any adapters in between.

Integration of the D555 into a platform, requires a native Ethernet interface on the Host platform. USB to Ethernet convertor won’t work. Please refer to #5 or #6 for the options to power via the Ethernet interface or via USB.
Please refer to https://github.com/IntelRealSense/librealsense/tree/development/tools/dds/dds-config to learn how to configure the IP address.

The D555 is supported with the same cross-platform open-source Intel® RealSense™ SDK 2.0.

Yes. D555 is comprised of the same D450 Optical module used in D455 camera with an Intel® RealSense™ Vision V5 SoC Board I

The box product comes in a retail box. It has a peripheral, an Ethernet cable, tripod and a get started guide.

Yes. The Intel® RealSense™ Depth Camera D555 comes in 30 pack bulk version with only the peripheral – no cable, tripod or retail box.
